Simplicity and security are probably the two features that most users demand when looking for the right backup tool. BackUp Maker has been designed to make your backup and restore operations as simple as possible while adding state-of-the-art AES 256-bit encryption to your private and most sensitive data.

The program is completely wizard driven, both on the backup side and on the restore side. The backup wizard goes through 12 simple steps – a bit too many for a wizard – that will allow you to customize your backups in every possible way. Not only can you select which files and folders you want to include in your backup, but also the type of backup (full, partial, interval, incremental...), a password to encrypt and protect your data, the action that the program will take before and/or after the backup process, where you want your backup files to be stored (including the option to burn them to disc or to store them in an FTP site), and a number of other minor options and features.

Besides, in the Configuration dialog, you also have the option to define the type of compression you need, the reports you want the program to produce for you, your mail and FTP settings, etc. As for the Restore wizard, there is not much to tell – it will simply ask you for the file you wish to restore and will do the job quickly and efficiently.

BackUp Maker comes in two flavors – a Standard edition and a Professional edition. The former is completely free for personal and private use, and it includes the same functionality present in the Professional edition. Actually, the extras that you get when upgrading to the latter is customer support and the legal permission to use the program at a commercial level. If you don’t need any of those but you need a flexible yet simple backup tool to safeguard your data with the highest level of security, BackUp Maker is certainly worth the try.
